DAT rec\player needed the 4 surface mount electrolytic capacitors on the head drum PCB underneath the deck replacing as they had leaked and dried out. The player would lock on to recordings only after the deck had been switched on for around 10 mins.

This DAT recorder was snapping the tape. Looking inside, the RH tape guide wasn't returning to the rest position, increasing the tension on the hair spring acting on it sorted.

This large DAT recorder, first one made, would only work after it had been switched on for at least 10 min. Apart from hundreds of dry joints, the 10 µF 16V capacitors on the drum PCB-under the drum assembly needed replacing, four off them (silver surface mount) in total. They were leaking and almost o\c.

Sony CDP-101

This wouldn't do anything except power up, the gears on the draw are worn (a common fault), a gear in the series of 3-4 gears wears its teeth under the deck, loading a disc manually didn't prove successful so resigned it to the spares skip, pity as it cost £800 in 1982 and was the first from Japan.

Sony ST-5055L - Tuner From 1974

This needed a blanket re-soldering to restore the tuning meter and reception quality, but was well worth it.
