This was blowing the mains fuse. Looking inside, it had been wired using ring main solid wire, not sure if the secondary was wired correctly. Checking the modules, one channel had shorted 2N3773s replaced them and removed the capacitor across the protection part of the circuit as recommended. The case wasn't very rigid with just the 2 screws in the middle to hold the cover in place, so I added a couple of brackets near the heatsink end, much better. Wired the +/- etc supplies with telephone solid wire as a temporary measure before anyone comments...
